Mattie Scott, Founder, ED Healing 4 Our Families & Our Nation (H4OF&ON) is a 20 year veteran Violence Prevention/Intervention Specialist and Activist. July 17, 1996 her life changed when her youngest son, George C. Scott, 24, father of 2 young sons, was killed in their Western Addition neighborhood in San Francisco. He was #53 of 96 African American males killed that year. The lack of care, concern, victim services and response in her son’s death and the negative image attached to his murder, turned her pain into action. Mattie went on a mission to fight to save lives, bring attention to this major disparity of black and brown males being killed everyday in our streets and someone was going to pay attention to this epidemic! She helped to get guns out of the wrong hands, begin culturally designed holistic healing circles for all hurting people, while working tirelessly to “stop the killing & start the healing”, working with the parents, law enforcement, public health, elected officials, the faith-based, schools, CBO’s, youth and communities. “It’s about all of us or none of us”. Her personal touch in support services, advocacy, training programs, leadership skills, and holistic healing techniques have navigated victims, survivors and former perpetrators of violence to conquer the “worst nightmare” in their lives with her Health, Healing & Restoration Program. We help to transform lives from being victims to become victorious, after homicide, trauma and violence. “Hurt people hurt people and healed people heal people”. “We’re in it to WIN IT and together we can” says Mattie. She continues to work with No More Tears, a violence prevention organization designed by lifers in San Quentin Prison, former perpetrators of violence, saving lives inside and outside of institutions of incarceration and helping to reduce recidivism for over 12 years in this victim/offender program. She is a 17 year veteran at San Bruno County Jail in the Resolve to Stop the Violence Project which she prepares and train mothers to tell their stories to inmates for their own health, and healing, while learning empathy and forgiveness.
